Need some open space?

A place to kick back and enjoy the beach, quiet canals, or walk your dog?

The Boca Parks & Recreation Services Department maintains more than 39 parks featuring playgrounds, fitness trails, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball fields, bicycle trails, dog parks, boat docks, and canoe trails.  Venture a little further west into the county, and there are several more.

Many of these parks have gained national recognition. Here are some highlights of several of the more prominent public parks:

Red Reef Park: This is a 67-acre oceanfront park that includes Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. It features a dune boardwalk, protected beach, play areas, grills, a snorkeling reef and picnic facilities.

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center: You don’t want to miss this. It is famous for its great programs and beautiful views of the ocean. The center’s research focuses on the conservation of sea turtles and other marine life. The staff monitors more than 600 turtle nests a year, rescues injured turtles, and releases more than 6,000 stranded hatchlings each season.

Mizner Bark: Yes, it’s a park for dogs. With six acres of grounds with water fountains and plenty of doggy bags, Mizner Bark is great for your canine friends. Even has sections for varying weights of dogs.

Sugar Sand Park: The perfect spot for the young and young at heart. There’s a 150-seat theatre along with nature trails, hands-on exhibits and the greatest obstacle course in the area.

South County Regional Park: Just outside of the city limits, this large facility boasts 27 holes of golf, softball and soccer fields, an amphi-theatre which hosts many concerts, bike trails, and much more.
